COTSWOLD Community Transport has been awarded one of the top prizes in a national competition promoting low carbon vehicles.
The service, which is run by Cotswold Council for Voluntary Service to provide low cost accessible transport service help people maintain their independence, was one of seven winners of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) and Energy Saving Trust’s Community Challenge.
It will share £20,000 with the other winners to support its work, which includes the installation of eco-mapping technology in its minibus fleet and the introduction of eco-driving training for its staff in order to improve fuel economy and lower costs.
LowCVP managing director Greg Archer said: “Installing this technology in a fleet of the scale of Cotswold Community Transport is extremely innovative. The project provides a great opportunity to test the technology and training drivers will maximise its potential.” The Community Challenge is funded by the LowCVP and Energy Saving Trust, and supported by ACT Travelwise, Global Action Plan, liftshare, the RAC Foundation and WhatGreenCar.com
