Demand for resources and subsequent threats to environmental quality call for Brunei Darussalam’s strong government commitment to a diverse economy, thus energy should be used efficiently. The Minister of Development says without proper management there will continue to be substantial impediments to the nation’s environmental, social and economic values and it’s long term development opportunities. Therefore, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi added, the country needs to produce and use energy much more efficiently, as it can lower costs and enhance economic competitiveness.
The Minister was speaking at a Korea-Brunei Energy Forum with the theme ‘Towards Low Carbon, Greener and Sustainable Development’. Yang Berhormat said the forum would certainly bring long and short-term benefits to Brunei Darussalam.
The forum included participants from various Government Departments, agencies, financial institutions as well as higher educational insitution. Among those present were the Deputy Minister of Development, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong and the Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.
