Online toolkit launched for low-carbon planning

| Sourced From |

An online toolkit has been launched by RegenSW to help planners better understand low-carbon planning policy.

The toolkit, designed with input from planners in the South West, is specifically designed to professionals and elected members through the multitude of messages about planning for renewable energy and climate change.

Developed by Aecom, with support from Land Use Consultants and the Centre for Sustainable Energy, the toolkit aims to increase knowledge and skills around low-carbon planning by explaining  what local authorities can and should do in this area.

This is complemented by a series of flexible training modules developed by CAG Consultants to give further detail on technical aspects, including topics such as low carbon technologies at a development site scale, on-shore wind, adapting to climate change and waste planning in the low carbon world.

The toolkit can be used to gather a renewable energy evidence base for target setting, to help prepare for developer negotiations, or to support the development of planning policies in the local development framework on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.

The toolkit is free for all local authorities here.

More information about the training modules is available here.
