The whole MTR network has just become more green with three-colour recycle bins being introduced in every station to make it easier for the 3.9 million passengers travelling on the MTR each day to pitch in to protect the environment and take a step closer to a low carbon lifestyle.
The full roll-out comes after a trial of the three-colour recycle bins for paper, aluminium cans and plastic at Hong Kong Station to encourage passengers to recycle and reduce the waste going to Hong Kong landfills.
The trial received enthusiastic support from passengers with 200 kilograms of recycle materials being collected each. As a result, the Corporation has decided to provide recycle bins at all 84 MTR and Airport Express Stations. “We are always looking at ways to be more environmentally-responsible, and this makes it easy for passengers to recycle and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Head of Operating – Support & West Region of the MTR Corporation Mr Ivan Lai. “The three-colour recycle bins have been specially designed for the railway system. While modern-looking, they have also been made to be hardy and fire-safe.
