Peru To Sell Carbon Credits To APEC Economies

LIMA, Oct 27 (Bernama) — Peru plans to sell carbon credits worth about US$8.4 billion to fund environmental protection, and the economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) would be potential buyers, China’s Xinhua news agency reported quoting the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism as saying Monday.

Campo Verde Project : breaking the cycle of deforestation in the Amazon (.pe)

The Campo Verde project in Peru became the first commercial reforestation endeavor with native species to be validated under the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) following the AFOLU guidelines for Afforestation and Reforestation. It was validated by TÜV SÜD.

Peru to raise payment to indigenous communities for Amazon forest conservation

Peru’s environment minister now says the government will pay indigenous communities 10 sols ($3.30) for every hectare of rainforest they help to preserve, reports the Latin American Herald. Previously Antonio Brack said that communities would see about half that amount.
