LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — 05/16/10 — The traditional white van man would happily drive a greener vehicle, according to latest research by Swinton Commercial, but they are concerned about the cost of being more environmentally friendly in their everyday lives.
The van insurance retailer found that while van drivers support innovation in green technologies, they remain dubious about the costs, with 73% saying they would consider buying a more energy efficient vehicle as their next purchase, but 62% saying it would be dependent on the price of green vehicles.
The survey of 2,000 van insurance customers comes as the European Parliament considers introducing mandatory speed limiters for commercial vehicles, in a bid to cut their carbon emissions.
Vans currently account for around 12% of total EU carbon emissions and the European Commission wants to introduce new legislation to reduce this figure.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton, said:”Van drivers want to be socially responsible and are willing to make green investments, but the costs associated are hard to take in the current economic climate”.
The survey also revealed the top three environmentally friendly vans currently on the market according to Swinton Commercial customers are:
1. VW Transporter
2. Mercedes Sprinter Eco Start
3. Ford Transit Econetic
