SARATOGA SPRINGS Mayor Scott Johnson joined a group of Skidmore students and other city residents at the Farmers Market Saturday to renew Saratoga Springs commitment to curbing climate change.
Johnson signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, a pact signed by more than 1,000 mayors nationwide, agreeing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their cities. Former city Mayor Valerie Keehn first signed the agreement, but it was apparently improperly filed and never registered with the organization, and Johnson was authorized Thursday by the City Council to sign it again.
The event was one of thousands held worldwide Saturday to mark an International Day of Climate Action. Organizers goals include reducing the atmospheres carbon count to less than 350 parts per million.
Rebecca Drago, a Skidmore student, was one of the events organizers. Skidmore student groups partnered with Sustainable Saratoga to put the event together.
