‘Compelling financial case’ for buying low carbon cars

| Sourced From |

There is a compelling financial case for buying a low carbon vehicle, according to Neil Wallis, head of communications for the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership.

Highlighting the benefits of cleaner cars, the expert said that low emission cars go hand-in-hand with fuel savings, which is the “most important feature for most people”.

He said: “While people may not in general be motivated to go low carbon, there are some people who will do that, but the majority will go there because of the financial incentives.

“There is a compelling financial case now for going low carbon and that case is only going to get more compelling.”

Such financial savings include a “whole raft of benefits”, he explained, including vehicle exercise duty, road tax and prioritised access to the London Congestion Charge.

Despite this, research from Carbuzz.co.uk recently revealed that just one per cent of drivers prioritise low CO2 emissions over other features when buying a new car.

The survey did show, however, that 16 per cent prioritise fuel economy, which in turn will lower carbon emissions.
