It might not seem a good time to be an environmentalist. The United Nation’s failure in Copenhagen to impose legally binding targets for countries’ CO2 emissions was a heavy blow to anyone concerned about the state of the planet. And those eager to do their bit have most likely been thwarted by this winter’s relentless cold snap, which is forcing us to burn more fuel just to keep our homes and workplaces habitable.
