Thai joins IATA Carbon Offset Program

| Sourced From |

Thai Airways will soon give its passengers the option to offset their carbon generated whilst flying, the airline announced Friday.

The announcement follows the airlines signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

It will be the first carrier in the Asia Pacific to join the IATA Carbon Offset Program.

THAI said it will now work with IATA to implement offsets into its existing sales structure and to identify which offset projects will benefit.

Passengers will then be able to choose whether to offset their carbon when booking flights on the THAI website, said Acting President ACM Narongsak Sangapong.

The website will give information about how much CO2 will be emitted, how much it will cost to offset it and to which project the money will be invested.

Monies given through the IATA Carbon Offset Program only goes to UN approved Certified Emissions Reductions (CER) projects and voluntary credits which comply with the recognised Gold and or Voluntary Carbon Standards. Passenger contributions go entirely to the sponsored project.
