TOKYO: Japan Airlines will start offering a carbon offset program on its website from February 3. This will enable passengers to voluntarily offset the CO2 gases generated by their trips.
Japan Airlines has teamed upwith Recycle One, the Japanese agency of the Carbon Neutral Company, one of the first companies to offer a carbon offsetting scheme to individuals. The JAL website has a link to a Recycle One micro-site where passengers can calculate CO2 emissions generated by their travel. They can then opt for one of about 10 international sustainable development projects to support. These projects focus on clean-energy technology, primarily wind power.
The airline program is voluntary.
