* EU is trying to put detail on existing carbon goals

* Transport sector must use more eletric cars and biofuels

LONDON, Feb 16 (Reuters) – The European Union’s executive Commission will call for a 60 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions from transport by 2050, in a draft paper to be published in the summer, an EU official said on Wednesday. The proposed transport targets are based on an existing EU goal to cut the bloc’s greenhouse gas emissions by about 80 percent by the middle of the century.

Since the UN summit on climate change that took place in Copenhagen last December countries have been trying to figure out what to do in the aftermath. Most considered the summit to be a failure as it did not produce any binding legislation about carbon emissions. Even though some goals were outlined, the regulations are not nearly as strong as initially hoped.
