Chicago’s carbon credits went to wood-burning plants

It looks like Chicago may not be as green as some have touted.

According to a Chicago Tribune investigation, the City of Chicago still gets most of its energy from coal, natural gas and nuclear power plants despite promises from Mayor Richard Daley that Chicago would get 20 percent of its power from renewable energy sources.

The problem stems from the ineffectiveness of buying carbon credits, which is supposed to help finance new sources of green energy. Instead,
