| Sourced From |

Yorkshire Bank has announced that it has become the first high-street bank in the UK to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard award.

The prestigious award is given to businesses that accurately measure their carbon emissions and take steps to reduce them year on year. Yorkshire Bank has reduced its carbon footprint by 15.8 per cent over the course of the last 12 months.

Yorkshire Bank invested in the refurbishment of its Leeds head office complex which generated a 68 per cent reduction in building energy use through changes in lighting controls and air conditioning.

Nigel Larkman, environmental programme director for Yorkshire Bank, said: “We aim to be entirely carbon neutral by September 2010. The recent carbon cutting measures we have undertaken have brought us one step closer to achieving that goal.”

Yorkshire Bank was founded in 1859 and now has 190 retail branches in the UK.
