It is a green-color 18×10 cm bike plate with plastic cover. On the plate is a cartoon picture: the rabbit Zhou Zhou and monkey Na Na are both riding bikes outside. It must be cool to hang such a plate in front of your bike. Reporters learned that the “Love Beijing, Go Biking” environmental bike plate distribution activity organized by Friends of Nature is just starting to get underway.
On the afternoon of October 12, reporters saw that there weren’t many people coming to get the bike plates at the Friends of Nature office. According to Hu Huizhe, the director of Education and Activity Department for the Friends of Nature, there are two ways to get the bike plates: coming to the office to get them or writing a letter to get them, and most people chose to write letters.
Pointing at a pile of letters on a desk, Hu said that all of them were letters asking for bike plates. The reporter saw a letter from a university student named Zhang Ting: “I have been riding a bike to school since I entered middle school, and my bike has become one of my closest friends. Nowadays, people are advocating a happy life, and I believe more that riding a bike is both good for people’s health and for the environment. I especially hope that Beijing can retain its clean air, clean lake water and blue sky while also maintaining its rapid social and economic development. I hope I can get five of these bike plates, and I will distribute them to my family and friends.”
Reporters learned that the “Love Beijing, Go Biking” environmental bike plate distribution activity is just a part of the “low-carbon travel” activity organized by the Friends of Nature. The plate distribution started on September 14, and most of the people who have ordered the plates are young people. By the end of the day on October 12, over 140 bike plates had been distributed. The plate distribution activity, which originally scheduled to end on October 12, has been extended to the end of October.
