“Clean” coal research and development firm ADA-ES Inc. said Monday its subsidiary Crowfoot Supply Co. LLC has started construction of a second activated-carbon manufacturing plant in Louisiana.
ADA-ES (NASDAQ: ADES) is based in Littleton.
The new plant is at the Port of Natchitoches in Natchitoches Parish, La. When complete, the facility will be capable of processing 8,000 pounds an hour of powdered activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, or AC. The material is used to control mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants.
The plant will have 40,000 square feet for storage plus a materials processing center, and a loading and transfer spot for bulk bag, truck trailer and rail car transportation.
In August, ADA-ES’ subsidiary Red River Environmental Products LLC started building the largest activated-carbon manufacturing plant in North America, in the Red River Parish of Louisiana, about 30 miles north of the second plant.
The company has said the Red River plant’s first production line will be capable of producing 125 million to 175 million pounds of AC per year and is expected to come on-line in 2010. The total capital cost for the first production line has been estimated at $350 million, the company has said.
“This new facility reflects our continued commitment to provide clean coal technology to the power industry,” Michael Durham, ADA-ES’s president and CEO, said in a statement.
