EDMONTON _ Epcor Utilities Inc. says two of its carbon capture and storage proposals are moving into their next phase, now that the Alberta government has selected the ones it wants to consider further.
The privately held company submitted two proposals as part of the Alberta government´s plan to fund projects for capturing and store carbon.
Epcor announced Thursday that the province has now invited it to outline in more detail how it intends to capture, transport and store the carbon dioxide.
Epcor is working on an integrated gasification combined cycle project at its Genessee coal fired plant, which would have the potential to capture more than 1.25 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
It is also proposing a pilot project to use amine scrubbers to remove carbon dioxide from gas that is released into the atmosphere at Genessee, in a process that could cut emissions by between eight and 10 per cent.
