NEW HOPE, Pa. - (Business Wire) myYearbook.com, the fastest-growing social network in the United States, is rapidly becoming the largest humanitarian site for teens. Since September of 2008 when “Causes” launched, myYearbook’s philanthropic web application, members have removed over one million pounds of deadly CO2 from the atmosphere.
“Carbonfund.org is leading the fight against global warming through climate change education, outreach, and enabling individuals, businesses and organizations to reduce and offset their carbon footprints. We are really pleased to have as a partner myYearbook in helping us to accomplish our mission. The donations that we receive from myYearbook make a meaningful impact on our work,” says Jennifer Hawse, individual outreach coordinator. Carbonfund.org is one of 11 notable charities that myYearbook supports, along with the World Food Program, Save Darfur and Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
Lunch Money, myYearbook’s virtual currency, allows members to donate to the Causes they care about, ranging from feeding rescued animals to fighting cancer. To date, myYearbook members have donated over 911 billion dollars of Lunch Money to fighting global warming alone, a contribution that attests to the tremendous generosity of myYearbook’s millions of members.
“Causes has revolutionized the way teens view the world,” says Catherine Cook, the teenage co-founder of myYearbook. “It’s taken their passion for wanting to make a difference, and turned it into measurable action.”
To further support charitable contributions, myYearbook’s members are able to choose a profile sponsor. “By connecting members to Causes, Causes to sponsors, and sponsors to advertising funds, we’re able to donate $250,000 a year to worthy charities,” explains Geoff Cook, the company’s CEO and Catherine Cook’s older brother.
An overwhelming 20,000 new people join myYearbook.com every day and, in the course of five months, have become part of the whopping 11 trillion in Lunch Money donations to Causes. “It’s incredible to witness the impact myYearbook members are having on the planet,” says Catherine. “They really are making this world a better place.”
