SANTA BARBARA, CA — 05/22/09 — Carbon Sciences Inc. (OTCBB: CABN), the developer of a breakthrough technology to recycle carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into gasoline and other fuels, today announced that Byron Elton has been promoted to Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO. Elton replaces Derek McLeish, who recently announced his retirement.

Commenting on the succession Derek McLeish said, “My retirement and Byron’s promotion to the chief executive position have been considered for quite some time. Byron has demonstrated great passion, vision and a unique ability to energize our company. He is a very capable leader. I am confident about passing the torch to Byron and look forward to my retirement knowing that the company is in good hands. As a founder and large shareholder, I will continue to support the company in any way I can.”

In accepting his promotion, Byron Elton stated, “I am honored and humbled with the responsibility to lead Carbon Sciences. Opportunities to make a truly meaningful contribution are rare, and I gratefully accept and embrace the challenge. During my career, I have been on the ground floor of revolutionary technologies in broadcast media and the Internet. However, nothing matches the significance of Carbon Sciences and our solution to the dual crisis of energy and climate. I look forward to Derek’s continued support and I wish him the best in his retirement.”

Under Elton’s management, Carbon Sciences has received national media coverage from USA Today, New York Times, Newsweek Magazine, as well as being recognized during a Congressional hearing on carbon recycling. This high profile media attention has resulted in partner inquires from all over the world.
