The (IPC) an environmental measurement and monitoring system to help the postal
industry measure and reduce its carbon footprint. The new measurement standard was
introduced at IPC’s annual conference in France. The objective is to
provide the postal services with a carbon measurement and management
system that conforms to the requirements of international standards
such as , DJSI, etc. The system will
assess the performance of various postal operators in 10 carbon
management proficiency categories and in important efficiency
indicators.
The Chief Executive of IPC Herbert-Michael Zapf said "The IPC Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System provides our
members with a way of measuring and benchmarking their initiatives and
optimizing their effectiveness. It can be used by all postal
operators, regardless of size or what stage they are at in their
environmental programs."

To whom it may concern:
My name is Meena Ramachandra and as the Director of the Univeral Postal Union Committee, I am writing to you on behalf of Rutgers Model United Nations (RUMUN) 2009. RUMUN is an academically oriented debate conference that simulates the actual proceedings of the United Nations. The conference is run by Rutgers University students like myself, in affiliation with the Institute for Domestic and International Affairs (IDIA), a not-for-profit organization. RUMUN 2009 will be attended by nearly 1,100 high school students from across the United States and the world, who will represent different states during the debate.
At RUMUN, one of our goals is to provide students with expert speakers who have hands on experience in the topics that are being discussed so they see the direct impact of issues that can otherwise seem distant. We think that you would be an ideal speaker in our simulation of the Universal Postal Union as they are discussing Environmental Impact of Mail. Whether it be an institution sending out monthly reports to employees, a non-profit organization mass mailing awareness brochures, or a private citizen paying his or her electricity bill, it is safe to say that almost everyone has some dependence on the postal service as a function of daily life. The environmental impact of mail is a global issue and far from minimal. The carbon dioxide emissions from postal delivery vehicles to the towering landfills full of old magazines and newspapers are just a glimpse of the environmental damage mail can entail.. Given your experience and expertise in this area, we feel that you would be able to greatly enhance debate for our students as a guest speaker.
The Conference is from November 12-15, 2009 in Somerset, NJ at the Holiday Inn and Double Tree hotels. The schedule for the conference is as follows: Thursday evening is opening ceremonies followed by the first committee session from 8:00 PM until 11:30 PM. On Friday there are three committee sessions, one from 9:15 AM to 12:00 Noon, a second from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and the last from 8:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The committee sessions on Saturday are from 9:15 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. On Sunday, the students will break from their committee debates and combine for an activity regarding the theme of the conference, followed by closing ceremonies. If you are available to speak during any of the committee session times, especially on Friday or Saturday, we would be thrilled to have you share your experiences with us and our students.
There will be several speakers at the conference including professors from Rutgers, UPenn, Seton Hall, NYU, and Columbia in addition to representatives from the United Nations and Nongovernmental Organizations, among others. There is no specific minimum or maximum in terms of the duration of the presentation you make, however, speakers in the past have typically spoken for between 20-45 minutes. The format of the speech is based entirely upon your discretion and can be discussion style, lecture style, speaking before a question and answer period, or any other structure with which you are comfortable.
If you are interested in speaking, RUMUN 2009 and IDIA would be greatly honored to have you as a guest. If you are unable to speak but know of anyone else involved with these issues, I would appreciate if you could forward their contact information to me. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at this address or at 848-391-6703 I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time.
