The upcoming will see the G8 countries agreeing to that help bring down carbon emissions. While the agreement will not specify the individual goods that will fall into the category of reduced/zero tariffs, it will be in keeping with the Doha round.
The G8 countries will also pledge greater support for research and development of green technologies such as solar energy, carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) etc. in an effort to curtail greenhouse gas emissions and thereby fight global warming. Japan – this year’s host, will invest $10 billion annually in R&D of green technologies – a twenty per cent increase.
