Among Europe’s best-selling automotive brands and for the third year running, Fiat Automobiles has logged the lowest average value for CO2 emissions of cars sold in 2009: 127.8 g/km (it was 133.7 g/km in 2008). The accomplishment was recognised by JATO, leading automotive advisory and research service provider. The bottom line shows FIAT ahead of Toyota (130.1 g/km), Peugeot (133.6 g/km), Renault (137.5 g/km), Citroen (137.9 g/km), Ford (140.0 g/km), Opel/Vauxhall (148.9 g/km), Volkswagen (150.4 g/km), AUDI (160.9 g/km) and Mercedes (176.4 g/km).

Volvo customers can now buy a diesel-powered Volvo V70 or S80 with CO2 emissions as low as 119 g/km, corresponding to fuel consumption of just 4.5 l/100 km and Band A for VRT & Road Tax. This means that over the past year or so, Volvo Cars has delivered five models with emissions below 120 g/km. Volvo claims that its DRIVe badge is found on cars with the best environmental performance in their respective size class.

A development project involving the use of novel, optimised engine components, which when combined, achieve a 10% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions has been embodied in a brand new concept vehicle, the CO2ncept-10% (pictured), the result of a powertrain friction reduction development project between the German companies Schaeffler and Porsche.

And speaking of good truck photos how about this cracker? Perfect blend of natural light and flash (including back-lighting behind the truck). And believe me these night-time shots can be a nightmare. Of course it’s the work of the equally-ace Bryan Winstanley and it accompanies the news that the Delivery Co. the Northampton-based specialist logistics provider for members of the PaperlinX group, has introduced the UK’s first eight teardrop-bodied distribution vehicles into service.  Branded ‘Curved to cut CO2′ and based on 26-tonnes gross vehicle weight Scania chassis and equipped with bodywork by Don-Bur, the trucks are now operating on the nationwide distribution of paper and plastics products for Robert Horne Group, Howard Smith Paper and The Paper Company.

(Nanowerk News) Stagecoach Group has reduced its CO2 emissions from its bus fleet in the UK by more than 100,000 tonnes over the past five years through use of a hi-tech fuel additive.

The saving equates to the average CO2 emissions produced by more than 10,000 households in the UK over a 12-month period, according to official Government statistics*.

BMW aims to reduce its EU fleet-average emissions by 25% or more by 2020. This would follow a previous 25% cut in the OEM’s EU fleet-average emissions between 1995 and 2008. The new target was announced at the BMW Group sustainability summit in Berlin by Harald Krüger, member of the board of management of BMW. To meet the new target, Krüger said the company would need technologies such as zero-emission electric drive.
