March 2009: At a special meeting held in Bonn, Germany, from 24-26 February, the Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT) discussed and finalized three advanced reports on: performance indicators for technology development and transfer; identification and analysis of existing and new financing resources and relevant vehicles for the development and transfer of technologies; and long-term strategy to support the development and transfer of technologies.

New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) The Delhi Metro, which is the first railway project in the world to be registered for carbon credits by the United Nations, has been certified to have prevented over 90,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere by reducing its power requirement in three years, an official said Sunday.

5 February 2009: During the 2009 Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, which is organized around the theme “Towards Copenhagen: an equitable and ethical approach” and is taking place from 5-7 February 2009, in New Delhi, India, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned that ignoring or underestimating the threat of climate change would lead to increased poverty and hardship. Ban, who received the Sustainable Development Leadership Award at the Summit, underlined that tackling this challenge requires “all our leadership, all our commitment, all our ingenuity,” but that it also provides an “opportunity to make progress on a wide range of sustainable development issues.”
