Britain to Subsidize Low-Carbon Car Purchase

Britain has announced that it will pay up to 5,000 pounds ($7,800, 6,000 euros) towards the cost of buying a new low-carbon car. The news came after the program for funding low-carbon cars was facing dark times due to an austerity drive. The subsidy means that up-front costs of vehicles that comply with tough emission standards will go down by 25%.

Three Low-CO2 Volkswagens

Volkswagen has confirmed that new high-economy, low-CO2 BlueMotion versions of three of its cars are production-ready and will go on sale in the UK early next year. All three feature revised front bumpers, sill extensions, relocated air ducts and lower ride height in the interests of better aerodynamics so that the engine has less work to do pushing the car through the air.

JLR part of pioneer scheme in low carbon transport

Jaguar Land Rover is one of six car manufacturers putting their expertise behind a West Midland project to pioneer the development of mass low carbon transport.

The scheme, which is launched in Birmingham today, will see more than 100 battery, hydrodgen-powered and hybrid cars tested on the regions roads over the next year or so in the biggest programme of its kind so far.
