Press Release: EnergyLink Ltd. Welcome Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) Extension

The Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) is an obligation on all Energy Suppliers with more than 50,000 customers to reduce carbon emissions in domestic households. The scheme came into effect in April 2008 and was due to end in March 2011. The obligation falls on six main Energy Suppliers: British Gas, NPower, E.ON, EDF, Scottish Power and Scottish & Southern Energy.

FACTBOX-S.Korea moves toward carbon cap-and-trade

SEOUL, May 4 (Reuters) – South Korea, Asia’s fourth-largest economy, says it will finalise plans in September for an emissions trading scheme covering the majority of the nation’s carbon pollution.

Trading is likely to start from 2012 and is part of a two-step plan by the government to mandate emissions cuts by big polluters. The trading scheme will allow firms to set a market price for carbon and other industrial emissions.

SBY can rally support for legally binding CO2 cuts

President Susilo Bambang Yu-dhoyono made it clear at a press conference after the closing of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit Monday in Singapore that Indonesia would fight for a legally binding carbon emissions cut target at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen next month.

Climate Change Negotiation Progress Mixed: UNFCCC

Progress on climate change negotiations, geared towards December’s summit in Copenhagen where a new agreement on limiting greenhouse gas emissions is to be negotiated to replace the Kyoto Protocol, has been mixed at the latest round of talks, according to a top United Nations official.
