IRELAND IS unlikely to have to pay as much for the transition to a carbon-free energy system as many other European countries, according to ESB chief executive Padraig McManus.
The Marin Clean Energy initiative has dealt a blow to the argument that its customers would be producing more greenhouse gas than if they remained with Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
On Wednesday, the Marin Energy Authority, which is launching the clean energy program, announced that 78 percent of the electricity it will sell to customers in 2010 will be from carbon-free sources, exceeding the estimated 53 percent that would come from PG&E. The authority also disclosed the sources of most of its energy.
