Description: Join us in a \’low carbon festival\’ to address the growing consensus that there is an urgent need to make the transition from oil dependency to a low carbon future to tackle the threats of climate change and \’Peak Oil\’.
The UK\’s National Parks have a significant role to play in this regard.
e.g.
· The National Parks have abundant renewable energy resources of which only a small proportion has been exploited.
· The way in which land is managed within the National Parks offers the potential to absorb and store large quantities of greenhouse gases.
· National Parks provide a range of significant opportunities for taking measures which will enable the UK to better adapt to climate change.
There is already much activity going on in Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks in this regard. However, to meet the pressing challenges posed by climate change and Peak Oil, there is a need to accelerate the pace of transition to a low carbon future.
Local communities and businesses operating in and around the two moors are passionate about their environment and the aim of this festival will be to share in the enthusiasm and drive to develop and learn ways we can all protect Our Moors, Our Country, our Planet!
NB. Every effort has been made to minimise the carbon footprint of this event – however to ensure the success of the event and to maximise the key messages, it has been necessary to produce controlled numbers of posters and printed material; all of which has been produced using sustainable products and methods wherever possible.
Local communities and organistations across Dartmoor & Exmoor have a huge part to play in reducing the carbon footprint of the region and securing a sustainable future for us all.
Over the Festival weekend a number of events will be taking place managed by organistions, businesses and individuals who are committed to a low carbon future
