(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Wind-powered web host Bounceweb Web Hosting (www.bounceweb.com) has optimized its servers, and extended its green hosting plans to have no carbon footprint.
According to its Monday announcement, Bounceweb’s carbon emissions are entirely offset by wind energy credits, and its energy efficiency has been optimized by changing all of its server hardware to use 43 percent less electricity. The company said it has created “a new technology” to ensure zero carbon emission from all its servers.
“Recent surveys indicate that web hosting solutions have already contributed a lot to leaving carbon footprint and exploitation of non-renewable resources,” Bounceweb’s Joey Smith said in a statement. “We couldn’t wait any longer, we have expanded our Green Web Hosting solutions to ensure a safer tomorrow.”
As consumers realize the huge impact of web hosting on the environment, many web hosts have unveiled environmental initiatives recently. Earlier this month, RackForce Networks (www.rackforce.com) launched a cloud computing solution that runs on its hydro-powered data centers, and Data center solutions provider Consonus Technologies (www.consonus.com) joined Rocky Mountain Power’s (www.rockymountainpower.net) Blue Sky Program, which helps support regional wind energy, and encourage the development of small, community-based renewable energy projects in the company’s service area, such as solar power.
