SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ — Hotwire.com(R), a leading discount travel site, is known for its great deals on airfare, hotels and car rentals. Now you can add carbon offsets to that list, because Hotwire has announced that starting today, when customers purchase offsets through a new program with TerraPass, they will only have to pay half of the cost that TerraPass normally charges — because Hotwire will pay the rest. By participating in this program, customers can partner with Hotwire to fund emission reductions in order to help balance the impact that travel has on the environment.

Once Hotwire customers make a hotel, car rental, or flight booking, they will be given the option to purchase a carbon offset through TerraPass. These offsets normally cost $12 for two weeks of a hotel stay, one week of driving, or one domestic flight, and $48 for an international flight, but Hotwire will pay for half of every purchase. So the final cost to the customer will only be $6 and $24, respectively. In turn, TerraPass uses the contributions to support clean energy and other projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This offer is the only one of its kind being offered by a travel company, and further solidifies Hotwire’s commitment to provide great deals to its customers. In addition to the discounted carbon offsets that can be purchased through Hotwire.com, consumers also have access to flight, hotel and car rental deals that can’t be found anywhere else. Hotwire is able to provide such deep discounts to consumers because it helps fill empty airline seats, hotel rooms, and rental cars that would otherwise go unsold.
