Low Carbon: Staff at Halton Council join Cycle Plus and Greentravel2work schemes

| Sourced From |

STAFF at Halton Council are being encouraged to leave their cars at home and adopt a healthier, greener way of travelling to work.

Cycle Plus and Greentravel2work are two ways for employees to help stop clogging up Halton’s roads and reduce their carbon footprint by either biking it or hopping on the bus.

Through Cycle Plus employees can hire a bike worth up to £1,000 from a list of shops.
The cost will be deducted from staff salary over the next year, but does not have tax or national insurance applied.

Organisers claim the scheme can save up to £400 on the price of a bike.

In the same way Greentravel2work helps staff to take advantage of the discounts offered by participating bus operators for buying a 12 month bus tickets for up to 30% off.

Staff pay for the tickets in 12 monthly deductions from their salary.

Again, this amount is exempt from income tax and National Insurance contributions up to 41%.

Rob Polhill, executive board member for transport, said: “I’m a strong believer in encouraging people to use alternative forms of transport whenever possible.

“The council is always working with partners to encourage local residents to be greener and healthier.”
