As part of the coalition Governments desire to be the greenest Government ever, Housing Minister Grant Shapps has indicated that much more flexibility may be given to Councils and developers in meeting eco-standards. This is in an attempt to make all new homes zero carbon from 2016.
The Minister is going to look into ways that builders could meet their eco obligations for example by making payments to community energy products such as wind farms and heating schemes.
Minimum standards such as cavity wall insulation will continue to be an obligation.
