| Sourced From |

A study conducted by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative, South Asia, has revealed that Pune emits 1.31 tonnes carbon dioxide, well below the average 1.75 tonnes emission in other Indian cities, every year.

According to a statement released by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the council conducted the study of energy status in 53 Asian cities. In Pune, the PMC gave all relevant information to the council. Of the 53 cities where the study was conducted, 40 were in India while 13 were from neighbouring Butan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The analysis of the information collected was tabled at a recently held conference in Ahemdabad. The study concludes by suggesting that citizens need to adopt environment-friendly measures to tackle the issue of climate change and global warming. It said that there should be optimum use of solar energy, wind and natural factors.
