Heres a great idea. Clothing swaps can prove to be a move towards going green, and the effort could also help endeavors to raise money for a charity initiative. Swap for Good, a grassroots, volunteer-led campaign aims at encouraging people to host clothing swaps, as a way to raise money for local domestic violence shelters.
The idea is that you can go green by recycling your clothes at a clothing swap house party, get new clothes for free, and donate some of the money saved on shopping to a local domestic violence shelter that needs aid. It has been revealed that requests for funding of domestic violence shelters have been turned down by the thousands owing to shortage of finances. It is here this noble initiative could be seen as unique.
With October being observed as the month of National Domestic Violence Awareness, Swap for Good is looking at setting up 100 swaps across the country. The organization has re-launched its website and has signed up swaps in Texas, Indiana, Washington, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Florida, Oregon, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.
By doing this, the organization is also making an attempt to cut down on the carbon footprints of clothes. The initiative is seen as helping reduce water, dyes, pesticides and energy that goes into making new clothes.
